The fancy term for this is called a ‘cavitation.’ Dr. Ash also refers to them as ‘bone farts’ because it is simply gas being released from a joint space. Not every joint space will makes a noise! Also, just because something makes a noise, it does not mean something was adjusted.

Sometimes people feel a little sore after their first couple of adjustments because we are making changes in the body for the first time in a while. It’s like going to the gym for the first time! All those soft tissue structures (like ligaments, muscles and tendons) are being affected and it takes a little time to adapt. Ice for 15-20minutes is usually a great way to offset the soreness!
-
While you certainly do not have to do anything, weekly adjustments are a great way to be proactive with your health. You don’t brush your teeth because you think you have cavities, nor do you stop eating right and exercising when you reach your goal weight! Getting your nervous system checked regularly is vital since life requires constant adaptation.

First off : STOP CRACKING YOUR NECK!! You have incredibly vital blood vessels and other soft tissue structures that can be seriously injured! Even Chiropractors (who went to school & trained for 3+ years) can’t adjust their own neck! Moving through natural range of motion and hearing ‘pops’ is one thing; forcing the movement to make noise is something else entirely. Regular chiropractic care will reduce the urge to do it yourself and ensure that the appropriate segments are adjusted.
